Floradora Cocktail

If you’re searching for your next go-to gin cocktail (or a cocktail with a fun twist), the Floradora deserves your attention.

With its vibrant colour, refreshing fizz, and cheeky theatrical history, this drink is perfect whether you’re mixing at home, planning a party, or looking for expert cocktail event services to impress your guests.

the history of the floradora

The Floradora cocktail dates back to the early 1900s and was named after the smash-hit Broadway musical Florodora. The show featured the famous “Florodora Girls,” six glamorous chorus performers who became icons of style and sophistication.

New York bartenders of the time were quick to capitalise on the trend, creating a cocktail just as flirty, vibrant, and fun as the show itself. More than a century later, it’s still one of the most playful classic cocktails with gin—and a brilliant way to showcase your favourite spirit.

THE CLASSIC FLORADORA RECIPE

Traditionally, the Floradora is made with premium gin, lime juice, raspberry syrup (or raspberry liqueur), and topped with fiery ginger beer. It’s light, fruity, and refreshing with a spicy kick.

Here’s how to make it at home:

INGREDIENTS

Add Queen Cleo London Dry Gin, chambered and lime juice to a shaker and shake well.  Strain into a glass with ice and top with ginger ale.  Add a lime wedge for an extra bit of zest!

This is a drink that looks as good as it tastes with it’s beautiful blush colour. Perfect for cocktail parties, weddings, or corporate events where presentation matters just as much as flavour.

A RUM LOVER’S TWIST

While gin is the traditional choice, the Floradora also shines with rum. Try swapping in:

  • White rum for a lighter, tropical twist

  • Dark rum for a richer, spiced depth

As rum specialists, we often recommend this variation for summer gatherings, cocktail receptions, or themed events where guests want something unique but still delicious.

WHY THE FLORADORA BELONGS AT YOUR NEXT EVENT

Whether made with gin or rum, the Floradora is more than just a cocktail—it’s a conversation starter. Its history connects you to the glamour of early 20th-century theatre, while its flavour profile feels modern and versatile.

That’s why we love serving the Floradora at events. It’s:

  • Eye-catching with its raspberry hue

  • Refreshing and easy to drink

  • Customisable for both gin and rum enthusiasts

As cocktail specialists, we can bring this classic (and plenty more) to life at your celebration, ensuring every guest gets a memorable drink in their hand.

HERE’S OUR STORY

After 6 years of being together we never thought that we would one day be in business together. Who knew where a simple text message could lead….

It all started with a conversation with Nicola at one of The Little Gin and Rum Company’s events in Leeds. Amy sent a message to Ian saying “Do you fancy buying a gin and rum company?” and the wheels were set in motion.

OUR BACKGROUND

IAN:

“As a sales professional travelling the UK and the world, I have made travelling and alcohol my thing.  With over 20 years experience supplying the hospitality industry with software and e-learning, I can’t wait to start sharing Queen Cleo Spirits with the industry I love.  You’ll usually find me with my favourite Queen Cleo Rum with ginger ale.”

AMY:

“Where Ian loves sales, I love marketing and as a digital marketing trainer and professional public speaker, I always have a lot to say.  When Nicola and Emma started virtual events in lockdown, I jumped at the opportunity to talk about gin and rum and nearly 200 events later, I still love it.  Old Tom is my favourite tipple and I’ll even drink it neat with just a cube of ice and a squeeze of lime.”

THE FUTURE

Nicola and Emma have created a gin and rum legacy and we are honoured to take it into the future.

We can’t wait to share our plans with you and we promise to make Queen Cleo proud.

You know our favourite Queen Cleo drinks and we’d love to know yours.  Share them with us on Instagram #littleginandrumco.
